According to a study, there are more than 100,000 known species of flies in the world. Only God knows how many unknown species are yet to be discovered! Known as “musca domestica” in Latin, flies are normally 4 to 7.5 mm long. Female flies lay five to six batches of 75 to 100 eggs. In ideal conditions, these eggs hatch in 12 to 24 hours. The average life span of a fly is less than one month and they are known to carry more than 100 pathogens, which can cause some serious diseases like typhoid, cholera and dysentery.

A home free of flies takes a little effort and at times, using professional help to do so can be the best option available to control their population or eliminate them complete. In the meantime, here’s a look at some temporary solutions that require less effort but can be effective, nonetheless.


  • Fly Control Techniques: The process is basically about not allowing flies to enter the house and keeping control over their multiplying. This can be achieved by cleaning or destroying the breeding sources. If they don’t have any place to lay eggs, the growth will automatically stop. Normally places like trash cans and garbage bins are used by them to lay eggs. So it is important to identify all such places in the house and ensure that they are covered and clean.


  • Fly Elimination Techniques: The best way to solve a problem is to remove it from the root. Now this may sound very cruel but it is the best possible solution. If we remove the adult flies, then there won’t be any left to lay eggs. It will require some work on your part but will give you long term relief. Many fly repellents can be used for this procedure.


There many reasons to love vodka and this is one of them. For some reason, flies cannot bear the smell of vodka and so it can be used as a fly repellent. Just add some aloe vera juice to one spoon of vodka and spray it on an infested area. The better way though would be to use a repellant spray. You can easily buy it at any store near your house or can order it online.
